Maral in Waiting

Maral in Waiting is a refined realistic wood marquetry artwork created through the color separation technique, using the natural tones, grains, and textures of wood as the artist’s palette.

The image of the woman beside the hourglass creates a calm and contemplative scene, as if a moment of waiting has been preserved between silence and the passage of time.

The artwork is composed of approximately 2,000 individually selected wooden pieces, each carefully cut and assembled by hand. The harmony between natural wood colors, facial details, fabric folds, shadows, and background elements creates a visual richness close to a realistic painting, while remaining entirely rooted in the authentic beauty of natural wood, with no artificial coloring used.

A selection of valuable natural woods has been used, including jujube, walnut, pear, barberry, maple, burned walnut, oleaster, bitter orange, and other natural wood species. Each piece has been carefully chosen to build depth, contrast, softness in the portrait, and the emotional expression of the composition.

The surface is fully level, with no raised wooden elements, highlighting the precision of realistic color separation marquetry.

After completion, the surface was protected with a matte polyester coating, increasing durability while preserving the natural appearance of the wood and enhancing the visual depth of the artwork.
